Chile Aconcagua DOs
About Chile Aconcagua DOs
Wine elaboration in the Aconcagua region started as a result of the efforts of diversification and expansion of Chilean wine elaboration beyond the Central Valley in the 1980’s. The red wines of the DO Aconcagua Valley have earned international acclaim particularly since a wine by Viña Errázuriz, called "Seña", was placed ahead of both Château Lafite and Château Margaux in a blind tasting held in Berlin in 2004. That fact alone has become a milestone for the Chilean wine industry, similarly to what the Judgement of Paris represented for Californian wines. The Casablanca Valley and San Antonio Valley DOs, near the coast, are great examples of recent expansion efforts with most vines planted in the mid-1980s. The areas have become internationally recognized for their fresh and sophisticated Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay wines, among the whites, as well as incredibly good Pinot Noir reds, a grape which thrives in its cooler climate.
