Fortified wine is a wine to which a distilled spirit, usually brandy, has been added. There are many different styles of fortified wines, some made in a dry style and some in different ranges of sweetness and alcoholic graduation, from sherry, port and madeira, to vins doux naturels and Ruthenglen muscat.
