Nacho León, owner and winemaker of bodegas Demencia, has a mission: To create a sustainable project capable of adding value to the grape, as well as maintaining and recovering our vineyards, inheriting their best potential. This is how he creates artisan elaborations, careful ageing and traditional consumption associated with a culture, but without neglecting the latest trends and responding to changes quickly and personally. The cornerstone on which Nacho´s project is based is the value of the Bercian vineyard. He focuses on the recovery of old vineyards and their integration into organic farming. El Bierzo has a vineyard with great potential, with unique genetic material, but that has been mistreated in the recent past. It has been subjected to herbicide, phytosanitary and fertilization treatments that have caused a weakening of the plant. He has recovered soils highly contaminated by the action of these treatments, promoting biodiversity in the vineyard and the cohabitation of hundreds of different species of plants and animals. His wines illustrate this effort with delicacy and finesse.
