The Wine
Virolet 2021
In the Vineyard: The wine takes its name from a very singular 100% ecologically-operated vineyard, called Virolet and planted in poor, chalky soil with a sandy-loam texture. Harvesting is carried out by hand with the grapes placed in 20 kg crates.
In the winery: Temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel vats, followed by ageing on its lees in the same container for 5 months, which gives the wine volume and balances its acidity and structure
In the palate: Excellent example of a Xarel-lo wine from the Penedes. Intense, fruity and well balanced, with the characteristic bitterness associated to this variety that prolongs the finish of the wine in the palate.
The Producer
Bodegas Oriol Rossell
The winemaking history of the Oriol Rossell family dates back to 1497, where Pere Joan Rossell de la Costa appeared as the first winemaker in the saga. At Oriol Rossell, wines and cavas are produced at the estate. Their standards of quality are also linked to their commitment to using biodynamic methods. All O.R. vineyards are stamped with the 100% certificate and naturally rain fed. They allow naturally recurring plants to grown amongst the vines, green pruning, manual thinning of grapes and manual harvesting depending on the requirements of each product. In essence, a history of several centuries put into the sustainable production of excellent sparkling and still wines.
