The Wine
El Temido 2014
In the Vineyard: This wine is the translation of a unique terroir of the mountain range Sierra de la Demanda, in an extreme climate and from centenary-old vineyards planted at high altitudes (1,000 meters above sea level). Based on Tempranillo, it also incorporates other variates found in the old coupages planted in these vineyards in the past (including Mencía, Garnacha and Cariñena). Manual harvest at the end of October!
In the winery: Minimum intervention without crushing and fermentation on indigenous yeasts. Ageing for 12 months in 225 and 300-liter oak barriques, with a minimum potion of new oak.
In the palate: Medium ruby color representative of this fresh/Atlantic style of Tempranillo only found in Arlanza. Wild red fruits with extremelly well integrated structural qualities, with tense acidity driving the journey of the wine through the palate and a very long finish. Limited production (2,600 bottles).
The Producer
Bodegas Sabinares
Bequer Prieto and David González put their extensive expertise as professional enólogists in Ribera del Duero and Rioja, respectively, to the service of the finest production of wines based exclusively on centenary old grape vines at high altitudes in Covarrubias, a little town of the Arlanza DO. Their wines base on the blend of the multitude varieties found in natural coupages in vineyards established more than 100 years ago, with dominance of Tempranillo, but wtih presence of other red and white varieties such as Garnacha, Albillo and Malvasia, among many others. Their El Temido wine, who mixes what is found in the vineyard, stands among the best wines that WineDOs has had the opportunity to taste and commercialize.
