Celler Kripta

Celler Kripta

Formerly known as Agustí Torelló Mata, its founder's name, born in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia in 1935. He started working at the age of 14 and at the age of 18 he opened the first wine analysis laboratory in Sant Sadurní. In 1960 he married Carmen Sibill Cardús, beginning a life that will always revolve around cava and that will consolidate him as one of the best winemakers in the country. A man dedicated to Cava, in 1955 he made his first 500 bottles of cava, while he advised and directed important companies in the sector for years. In 1978 he produced his masterpiece: KRIPTA, recognized as one of the greatest sparkling wines in the world. Under the current direction of his 2 children: Àlex, who is the winemaker, technical and viticulture director, and Gemma, who is the lawyer and administrator of the company, they are a benchmark in Cava family businesses with an exceptional selection of both sparkling and still wines that illustrate the spirit of the Penedés winemaking region like no one else.

Spain Cava DO

Although most cava production occurs in the Penedès (a DO on itself, also producing still wines), with the village of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia known as the cava capital, Cava is also produced in other specifically delimeted areas of Spain. The main grape varieties in the production of cava are Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada, while the use of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir is recently increasing. Subirat Parent (Malvasia) is also used for white cava. Garnacha, Monastrell and Trepat are used in the production of rose cava.

Spain Penedés DO

Centered in the regional capital, Vilafranca del Penedès, the Penedès DO includes 66 municipalities and is divided in 10 different subzones, as indicated in the map. However, a more popular zoning divides the Penedes DO into three main zones. The Alt Penedès, the most inland and with the highest altitudes, with low yields and high-quality fruit, the Penedès Central, to the southwest and with the majority of the region's total production, and the Baix Penedès in the coastal areas.
