The Wine
Agusti Torello Barrica Gran Reserva 2017
In the Vineyard: 100% Macabeo grapes grown at the singular vineyard Pla dels Fidels plot. Vines planted using the traditional bunch approach at an altitude of 150m in the Penedès wine region valley.
In the winery: The wine ferments in oak barrels during 6 months with its autochthone yeasts selected before the harvest to respect the Macabeo variety and the original soil where it grows. Aging inside the bottle with its lees at a constant temperature of 17C in the cellar.
In the palate: Strong mark of the character of the variety, fragrances that illustrates the long aging, with skewed apple, toasted smells, and brioche. Creamy, glyceric and with an unmistakably complex structure.
The Producer
Bodegas Agustí Torrelló Mata
Agustí Torelló Mata was born in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia in 1935. He started working at the age of 14 and at the age of 18 he opened the first wine analysis laboratory in Sant Sadurní. In 1960 he married Carmen Sibill Cardús, beginning a life that will always revolve around cava and that will consolidate him as one of the best winemakers in the country. A man dedicated to Cava, in 1955 he made his first 500 bottles of cava, while he advised and directed important companies in the sector for years. In 1978 he produced his masterpiece: KRIPTA, recognized as one of the greatest sparkling wines in the world. Under the current direction of his 2 children: Àlex, who is the winemaker, technical and viticulture director, and Gemma, who is the lawyer and administrator of the company, they are a benchmark in Cava family businesses with an exceptional selection of both sparkling and still wines that illustrate the spirit of the Penedes winemaking region like no one else.

fresh and complex sparkling
Lovely fine bubble🥂, perfect acidity and long finish. Hints of white fruits and balsamic, creamy yet fresh. Always an excellent choice! I loved the pressure cap for the bottle that winedos sent with the wine. Thank you

Great cava
Clear pale lemon in color. The nose is youthful with medium plus intensity and notes of brioche, cream, lemon, apple, pear, lime peel, melon and apricot. This wine is dry with medium body, high acidity, medium alcohol and medium finish. The pallet has medium intensity and notes of apple, pear, lemon, lime, buttered toast and brioche. There is a toasty aspect coming from the wood as well. This wine is of very good quality and can be drank now but is suitable for aging

Cava beats champagne in price for equal quality
Always and consistently a good cava. Soft, smooth, creamy and oaky. With notes of dry flowers, souvenirs of the entry hall of a Masia. Toasted, noble woods. Of a conservative behavior, not for super-happy partying. To be drunk slowly, perhaps with a traditional dessert.

This bottle came with a metallic pressure capsule and a pourer! Nice detail and great service! Nice yellow color, apples and citrus on the nose. Crisp with green apples, almonds and orange on the palate. Very nice and good value for money.
