In the Vineyard: Tempranillo (95%) and Mazuelo (5%) grapes from century old vineyards in the Lecea state in limestone/clay soils that provide concentration and complexity to the grapes
In the winery: This wine is elaborated missing tradition with modern elaboration techniques to obtain a refined wine with character and personality. Fermentation in oak barrels of mixed age and toasting levels
In the palate: An extremely complex and mouth filling wine that expresses the best of Rioja in a rainbow of aromatic and flavor colors, including ripe black fruits, spicy and toasty tones, tobacco and licorice.
The Producer
Bodegas Lecea
The Lecea family, led by Luis Alberto Lecea, preserves the oldest production methods, the traditional grape treading and the aging of wines in astonishingly large subterranean cellars excavated 500 years ago. They farm their own vineyards in the village of San Asensio, La Rioja Alta for the production of 10 wines with marked personalities. The Lecea family is committed to disseminate their long family tradition, dating back tot he 16th century, within the general public, being highly recognize as the most active leaders of wine tourism in Spain.
