The Wine
Humo Blanco Pinot Noir 2022
In the Vineyard: 100% Organic and Biodynamic Pinot Noir grapes grown in Lolol, the Western-most side of the Colchagua Valley, where the influence of the Pacific Ocean provides humidity, freshness and cooling breezes that make these region unique and optimally suited for the production of structured wines from cool climate grapes.
In the winery: Bunch selection to remove plant debris. Vatting in concrete and stainless steel vats, once de-stemmed and crushed. Five days of cold maceration followed by fermentation with native yeast, at very quick speed. Maceration after fermentation for a relatively long period (total maceration of 25 to 30 days). Wine placed in barrels during malolactic fermentation, regular yeast stirring for 2-3 months, 10 months of maturation in second-fill barrels. Matured for 10 months in second-fill barrels.
In the palate: Pale red tending towards ruby, with hints of red. The aromatic intensity is carried by fresh strawberry and cherry aromas. The wine is borne up by a supple, velvety structure and beautiful aromatic freshness, highlighting the Lolol Valley’s exceptional conditions for this grape variety.
The Producer
Hacienda Araucano
Although François and his brother Jacques Lurton had been making Chilean wine since 1992, it was not until 2000 that they found the perfect spot in the Colchagua Valley. They bought 200 hectares (combining seven different estates into a single family) in an area that had never previously been used for winegrowing. Today, the estate has 28 hectares of vines, and Lolol has become a sought-after location for wine production. Located in a magnificent spot on the Ruta del Vino, we developed wine tourism on the estate to cater to the growing numbers of wine enthusiasts in Colchagua Valley.
