The Wine
Albamar Caiño
In the Vineyard: These are ancestral Caiño grapes which used to dominate plantings in Rías Baixas before the explosion of Albariño. The grapes come from small old vineyards plots in the Valle O Salnés, with selection of grapes in the vineyard and manual harvest.
In the winery: Ones in the winery, the wine ferments with autochthonous yeast, macerating afterwards for a few weeks. It is then transferred to French oak barriques for a 8'month crianza. It is bottled without clarification or filtration.
In the palate: It is a fresh red wine with personality and aromas and flavors of wild fruits and forest. It displays an elevated acidity characteristic of this grape that surrounds a clearly Atlantic red wine with tension and verticality.
The Producer
Bodegas Albamar
Xurxo Alba embraces the principle of minimum intervention in the elaboration of natural wines representative of a centuries old tradition in winemaking. Xurxo elaborates outstanding wines of Albariño, nursed in large oak fourdres and ageing on its gross lees. However, he is committed to recovering red varieties that dominated wine production in the area before the explosion and international recognition of Albariño. Caiño Tinto is an excellent example, which he uses in the elaboration of both white (blanc de noir) and red wines with Atlantic spirit.
