About Chile Coquimbo DOs
The Coquimbo wine zone is located in the North of Chile, right below the Atacama Desert, with vines sitting at very low latitudes, only thirty degrees south of the equator. It contains three denominations of origin for wine production: The Elqui Valley DO, currently the northernmost of Chile’s principal wine regions (there is wine made in the Atacama Desert further north, but production levels are way lower), the Limarí Valley DO, definitively the most recognized DO within the Coquimbo region, and the Choapa Valley DO, the smallest of the three, but up and growing with a great potential.
