Centenary Vines

When grapes come from vineyards a century or more old they come with a handful of treats under the stems.
Vines are old wood and don't produce much fruit, which makes sugar, phenolics and other ingredients to concentrate, leading to richer and more complex wines.
Such vineyards were planted with vines of different varietal clones of a grape and many times with different grapes (a natural coupage), including blends of red and white varieties. This increases biodiversity and authenticity, making the wines apart from those coming from younger modern vineyards.
